About the Project

At the last closing event of NATAN KARCZMAR'S "SPIRIT OF VILNIUS" exhibition on November 29, we will invite you to the Video Art program presenting two projects at Vilnius Town Hall:

1) Audiovisual installation "Gyvata" by sound artist Kotryna Kvedarytė:

Great Moat. It is located in the Mountain Park. This park was once formed by 3 melting glaciers, the furrows on the hills tell about it, the Great Gorge is perhaps the most vivid memory, and its bottom was a furrow until recently. However, during the reconstruction of the park, this unique impression was smoothed out and a widened road filled with crushed stone was made. In the spring, there is a water supply for 3 sometimes active springs. True, the road ends at a certain point and becomes a road again. During the performance, when the "Snake" horn blower vibrates the upper heavenly sphere, the action is focused below.

On the slopes of the Great Griova and below it, 10 women play with their voices and sing a sutra song. All vibrations are for the Earth. The arrangement of women in the archaic sense of the downward-pointing triangles represents femininity and draws attention to the feminine aspects of the Earth, which is the Great Rift itself. The earth in an archetypal sense is our mother carrying us no matter what. Although She does not have a human voice, it is still important to listen and ask Her, especially when performing actions.

2) "Vilnius Faithscape" is an ongoing artistic documentary project exploring the contemporary landscape of beliefs and spiritual practices in Vilnius, currently consisting of 11 episodes. Each episode of the film reveals how different religious communities, schools and spiritual practices reflect the reality of contemporary life in Vilnius.

Tolerance is like the plot of a movie, through which the uniqueness of each faith community and its ability to coexist peacefully with others is revealed. The city's ability to maintain inter-realistic and inter-cultural tolerance becomes an object of artistic exploration. We hope that this project will open new perspectives and initiate interesting discussions about the diversity of spiritual communities and their interrelationships in Vilnius.

Creators of the artistic documentary: Natan Karchmar, Kotryna Žilinskaitė, Petras Baronas: - "We try to be as authentic as possible, conveying the daily development of faith practices, along with their impact on the everyday life of the city. While filming, we aimed to record the daily life of the communities, ceremonies, prayer practices, and how different faiths contribute to the life of the city."

Attending the event is free The event starts at 17:00
